Everyone should be at least A2 in a foreign language

TLDR; Most people should be at least bilingual (B2 on the CEFR scale, at least B1, in a foreign language). And/or A2-B1 in 3+. Ideally (yet within practicality) B2 in one foreign language and A2/B1 in 1-3 others.

I say A2 because not everyone is interested in dedicating time to reaching B2 or C1, maybe not even B2, but A2 is enough to make basic communication possible. Ideally, this isn't done by a language chosen for you (like French or German) but is actually useful. They want our world to be multicultural and have several langauages so it would be best to choose a language which is useful in daily life. This doesn't mean don't learn another language -- I've gotten much more use from languages I'm interested in as opposed to purely practical ones -- but one of the most important things is genuine connection and language is a large factor in that. More important than language (though great when paired with it) is ethics (compassion and kindness) and etiquette.
